Deleting your account

Two kinds of deletion

Deleting your account on the server and deleting the data on your device are separate actions. Choose the one you need. To remove both, delete the account first and then delete the app data.

Step 1: Delete your account

1. Open the app and go to the Settings tab.
2. Tap "Delete account" in the Data section.
3. Read the confirmation and proceed. To verify your identity you will be asked to re-authenticate with the account you signed in with (Apple on iOS, Google on Android).

Nothing on the server is deleted until re-authentication completes. By design you cannot end up in a half-finished state where the data is gone but the account remains.

Step 2: Delete the data on your device (optional)

1. Open the Settings tab in the app.
2. Tap "Delete app data" in the Data section.

This never touches the server; it removes only the data on that device. Uninstalling the app also removes the data on the device.

What deleting your account removes

• Your public profile (display name, profile image, birth decade, gender)
• The contents and images of lists you had made public or shared with friends
• Friend relationships, friend requests, blocks, and invitation links
• Shared lists you created (you are removed from ones you had joined)
• In-app announcements and your notification device token
• The encrypted backup stored for device migration
• Entitlement information for the paid plan
• Credentials for linked GitHub / Google accounts (discarded from your device)
• The authentication account itself (we also attempt to revoke the Apple sign-in link)

What remains after deletion

• The contents of your own GitHub repository — it belongs to you, so we do not touch it. Delete it on GitHub if you no longer want it.
• Events exported to Google Calendar, and Google Sheets — exported data stays in your Google account.
• Data synced to iCloud (iOS) — you can remove it from your iCloud settings.
• Data on your device — removed by Step 2 above, or by uninstalling.
• The record of likes you gave to other users' posts — kept as an anonymous reference only, so that other users' like counts do not drop retroactively. It contains nothing that identifies you, such as a display name.
• Purchase history — held by the App Store or Google Play; we cannot delete it.

When data is deleted, and how long it is kept

• Account deletion — everything listed under "What deleting your account removes" is deleted at the moment re-authentication completes. There is no grace or holding period, and deleted data cannot be restored.
• Data on your device — deleted the moment you run "Delete app data" or uninstall the app.
• The anonymous record of likes you gave to other users' posts — kept indefinitely, so that other users' like counts do not drop retroactively. It contains nothing that identifies you, such as a display name.
• Data outside our control — your GitHub repository, data exported to Google Calendar or Google Sheets, data synced to iCloud, and your App Store or Google Play purchase history follow the retention policy of each service. We cannot delete them.

After deletion on our side, how long the data takes to disappear from our cloud provider's internal backups follows that provider's data deletion policy. We do not access or use the data during that period.

Deleting data without deleting your account

You can also delete data from our servers piece by piece while keeping your account. All of it is done in the app; there is no need to contact us.

• Stop publishing — setting a list's visibility back to "Only me" deletes the published data on our servers and the image files stored in the cloud.
• Delete a single list — deleting a list also deletes its published data, the images stored in the cloud, and, if linked, the GitHub issue.
• Delete a single image — deleting an image attached to a list also deletes the file in the cloud.
• Delete your profile image — from profile editing in the Settings tab.
• Remove connections — removing a friend deletes the record on both sides. Leaving a shared list removes you from its members.
• Delete only the data on your device — "Delete app data" never touches our servers; it removes only the data on that device.

A display name cannot be set to empty, so it remains on our servers until you delete your account. Images that have no local copy on the device — right after restoring from a backup, for example — cannot always be deleted individually; delete the whole list in that case.

If you have a paid plan

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription automatically. To stop being billed, cancel from your App Store or Google Play account settings. If you delete without cancelling, billing continues.

If you have already removed the app and cannot use it

Deleting an account requires signing in, so please reinstall the app, sign in, and follow the steps above. If that is not possible, send a request to the contact address in the Privacy Policy.
